The Spring/Summer 2013 "Gold & Dune" Collection is inspired by a trip I took to the Sleeping Bear Dunes in Michigan and is reflective of the Ojibwe folklore surrounding the dunes.
According to Ojibwe legend, a bear and her two cubs swam across Lake Michigan to escape a fire. While the mother eventually made it safely to shore she was unable to save her cubs who drowned within sight of her. The Great Spirit Manitou transformed the mother into a huge sand dune eternally overlooking and the two cubs who now remain two small islands (North & South Manitou).
